tesla

Why good writing?

Because great writing is the foundation of all.

  • Ads? Writing
  • Video scripts? Writing

Writing is everywhere. So if you know how to write well on the internet, you can do pretty much anything you want in terms of achievement and success.

But the problem is most people don’t know how to write well.

Most people write terribly.

Now lemme ask you…

Do you wanna improve your writing?

Yes, of course, you do.

So today, in this post I’m gonna give you the 7 practical writing tips that’ll make your writing way more effective.

These tips are not some bullshit you find on the internet. These are practical tips, so if you follow the tips it definitely gonna improve your writing.

Also, I’ll give you one example of each tip.

Let’s dive in:

1. You And Your

Scroll a little bit up. Read how many times I’ve used the words “you and your” there.

How many?

A lot.

Because I know, it works.

When you use “you and your” in your writing it makes your writing more personal.

On the other hand, if you remove it, or if you don’t use it, it makes your writing robotic.

Examples:

❌: A writer hit publish often.

✅: Your job as a writer is to hit publish often.

❌: Every writer can achieve freedom if they write online.

✅: You as a writer, can achieve freedom if you write online.

This is how you use it. And this is how it works.

2. Short Paragraph

Writing long paragraphs is the worst mistake you make as a writer.

Because a long paragraph kills the reader’s interest and curiosity.

You’re reading this post, you’ve come so far here, why? Because the paragraphs are short and they aren’t bothering you.

This is the only reason.

Example:

Let’s face it — making $1,000 by selling a $9 ebook on Gumroad is damn hard especially if you’ve less followers or you’re just starting out.

It’s not only tough but also pretty frustrating.

Digital writers think they’d make thousands of dollars by selling low-ticket gumroad products.

Yes, you can. But it’ll take you way longer to make it happen.

Maybe months, even years.

The harsh truth.

So what’s the solution?

Start A Service Business.

Now read this…

Let’s face it — making $1,000 by selling a $9 ebook on Gumroad is damn hard especially if you’ve fewer followers or you’re just starting out. (as I said earlier) It’s not only tough but also pretty frustrating. Digital writers think they’d make thousands of dollars by selling low-ticket gumroad products. Yes, you can. But it’ll take you way longer to make it happen. Maybe months, even years. The harsh truth. So what’s the solution? Start A Service Business.

It’s the damn same thing.

But you didn’t read it because at first glance the paragraph feels harder to read, thus you lose interest.

Simple.

We as a human, love things that are easier to do — common human nature.

What did you learn? Write short paragraphs.

3. Simple Words

Using simple words is an art for a writer.

I see, writers on Medium, every time they write something, they try to consistently chase complex words and they write jargon.

But understand, complex words not only waste the reader’s time but also the reader feels stupid.

And if they feel stupid they don’t give a damn about your writing.

No matter what your words say.

Simple words, on the other hand, make your writing way easier and it not only saves readers time but also the reader feel genius because they understand everything you say.

So you shouldn’t use complex words, but simple ones.

Here’s a living example of how it affects your writing when you use complex words in your writing.

Example:

Simple words…

Let’s face it — making $1,000 by selling a $9 ebook on Gumroad is damn hard especially if you’ve fewer followers or you’re just starting out. (as I said earlier) It’s not only tough but also pretty frustrating.

Digital writers think they’d make thousands of dollars by selling low-ticket gumroad products.

Complex version…

Let us acknowledge the veracity that generating a significant amount of $1,000 by selling a $9 electronic book on the e-commerce platform Gumroad is a truly arduous task, particularly when an individual possesses a meager number of followers or is at the outset of their entrepreneurial journey.

This undertaking is not only formidable but also profoundly vexing. Individuals who compose digital literature entertain the idea that vending low-priced products on Gumroad would lead them to earn a copious sum of money, which is plausible, but the process would necessitate a substantial amount of time.

It’s the same thing but you lose interest in the second one — just because it has a lot of jargon.

4. Inject Stories

The story changes the readers.

It changes the world.

If you’re not telling stories in your writing, you’re doing it wrong.

Everything you write should be framed as stories or you should try injecting your own stories so that the readers can feel more personal and enjoy your writing.

Stories are everywhere you just need to observe them, take notes, and whenever you get a chance, inject those stories.

Want an example? Ok, lemme give you one…

Example:

Almost 99% of digital writers struggle to get their first client — 1% of the people get lucky, so they get it quickly.

But that’s part of the game.

So, no matter which platform or industry you work in.

Whether it’s content writing, SEO writing, Ghostwriting, or email marketing.

Whatever.

Getting the first client is frustrating.

But if you do the right things in the right place — you get it easily.

When I started writing on Medium, one of my readers reached out to me and ask — if I could help her start writing on Medium.

That’s how I got my first consulting client.

Now if I remove the story part?

Almost 99% of digital writers struggle to get their first client — 1% of the people get lucky, so they get it quickly.

But that’s part of the game.

So, no matter which platform or industry you work in.

Whether it’s content writing, SEO writing, Ghostwriting, or email marketing.

Whatever.

Getting the first client is frustrating.

But if you do the right things in the right place — you get it easily.

Not stronger than the first one? Also not interesting?

You get it.

Just because I added my personal little story it makes the writing way more trustable and genuine.

However, you can tell your stories in, short, medium, and long forms.

It depends on your context.

5. Formatting

When I say formatting it doesn’t mean short sentences, short phrases, or short paragraphs.

Formatting is where you add:

  • List
  • Dashes
  • Numbers
  • Bullet points

These are the things that help the reader read through your whole content without getting exhausted.

Like I’m doing with this newsletter.

But to show you a prime example here is what you can do.

Example:

The point of working for free is to get a testimonial from your client.

Don’t ask for money — work free.

This way:

• You build trust.

• You get testimonials.

• You understand the market.

• You prove your competence.

Which helps you get more clients.

Now let’s remove the formatting part:

The point of working for free is to get a testimonial from your client.

Don’t ask for money — work free.

This way you build trust, you get testimonials, you understand the market, and you prove your competence.

Which helps you get more clients.

You can see the difference it makes.

The first one and the second one. The first one is easier to read than the second one.

The point is — your writing should be well formatted so it can become earlier to skim.

6. Slippery-Slope Writing

The only purpose of using this method is to move your reader from top to bottom.

This technique helps you grab the reader’s attention and keep them engaged with your content.

There are ways to do it.

Here are the ways you can do to make it more effective:

1. Ask Questions

You know the power of asking questions.

When you ask a question the reader thinks you’re genuinely talking to them and you wanna help them solve their problem.

You must ask questions in your writing.

And see the changes it makes.

2. Curious Phrases

Curious phrases are phrases that indicate a direction.

I use a lot of curious phrases and trust me they work so well.

What are some curious phrases? Here we go…

  • Let’s dive in…
  • The point is…
  • The only reason is…
  • But the problem is…
  • But here things get interesting…
  • So on and so forth

3. Open A Curiosity Loop

You start your writing and you generate the curious loop at some point.

Create suspense.

  • What next?
  • This could go wrong.
  • Then this happened.
  • This might happen worst.

So on and so forth.

When you do it keeps your readers engaged with your writing.

7. Consume

Let me be honest with you:

Without reading great content, you can’t write great content.

No argument.

Writing only isn’t enough.

You have to consume good content.

Your brain requires good content, to produce great content.

It’s a simple math — if you don’t see a good picture, you can’t draw a good picture.

So what’s the solution?

  • Read great books.
  • Read great articles.
  • Read great Medium articles
  • Read great email newsletters
  • Read and save tweets and threads.

Other than that?

  • Watch great videos.
  • Talk to great people.
  • Listen to great podcasts

This is the way.

Trust me if you can do it — you definitely gonna improve your writing.

I hope it helps.
